Cuphead is a run n’ gun game styled after a 1930’s cartoon, and in this post, I’m going to tell you how to play it (if you haven’t). I’ll basically tell you how each weapon, charm, and super art works, and little skips or glitches. I’ll even let you in on a few Easter eggs!
WEAPONS: The game starts you out with the Peashooter, a rapid fire weapon. Its EX makes a large blast come out of your hands that moves like the basic weapon-straight ahead. The rest of the weapons must be acquired through buying them. The Spreadshot shoots 5 red pyramids in a short range in front of you. The EX has 8 go in a circle around cuphead. The Lobber fires a purple ball that isn’t very rapid fire, but deals a lot of damage. The EX is just a bigger, more high damaging shot. The Roundabout shoots a boomerang that is semi rapid fire, and deals more damage on its way back. The EX shoots a big saw that does the same, but rounds a few times and deals more damage. The Charge Shot charges up for 1 second, and then releases a large blast. If you don’t charge it, it’s a small bullet. Even the tiny bullet isn’t rapid fire, but the large blast deals the most damage of all. The EX shoots a large explosion. The Chaser does what it sounds like: homes in on enemies. It is however the least damaging. The EX makes a shield around you that hurts enemies, but it’s hard to use. Plane Cuphead’s Peashooter is just an aerial Peashooter, with a chomping missile EX. basically just the ground Peashooter, but in the air. The Mini-Bomb is an aerial lobber, but the EX is actually homing magnet bombs!
SUPER ARTS: Art I: Energy Beam-Shoots a large beam of milk in front of cuphead that deals multi-hitting damage. Art II: Invincibility- makes Cuphead invincible for a short time. Art III: Giant Ghost-A giant ghost appears, and can be controlled like Cuphead, and deals large damage to bosses.
CHARMS: Sugar- allows you to auto-parry just by jumping. Smoke Bomb-your dash makes you invisible and invincible for its duration. Whetstone- your parry damages enemies if you parry them. Coffee-your Super Meter fills automatically. Heart-extra heart at the cost of attack power. Heart x2- double the single heart charm-2 extra hearts, less attack power.
GLITCHES/EASTER EGGS: I only remember one glitch- that is, in the Forest Follies level (a reference to a Felix the Cat cartoon, Feline Follies), the mini boss moth can be skipped by simply dashing through him, beating the level. Easter eggs: in case you don’t know, an Easter egg is a little secret hidden by the developers. I mentioned Forest Follies being Feline Follies, but in that same level, the woodpeckers that repeatedly peck the path look a lot like woody woodpecker. In the King Dice fight, Mr. Dice marches his hand in place and sends out a bunch of cards, a reference to a Mickey Mouse cartoon where Mickey leads a deck of cards in a march. In the Dice Fight, there are references in many of the mini-bosses of it. I’ll link a video to some Easter eggs right here.
In conclusion, Cuphead is a great game, and I recommend you play it-DLC is (hopefully) released next year! Woody Woodpecker and the evil woodpeckers.
